Video Game 2k7

I know most of you, like I, enjoyed MVP Baseball.  However, the graphics on the new 2k7 make me almost crap myself...check it out

I especially like the shot of ICHIRO! and King Felix in the video

Worst. Commercial. Ever.
Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck. Horacio Ramirez doesn't suck but is way worse than Soriano.

I think those images are PS3.
Correct me if I am wrong.  If it is 360 I will be pre-ordering it.

I was always a 2k fan
but I went with college baseball last year. But now that I have my 360 I will be getting this game.

by Scruffy Lefty on Jan 4, 2007 2:50 PM PST reply actions

Also they need to stop cross platforming
with the xbox and PS2 all it does is hurt the graphics for the 360 and PS3

by Scruffy Lefty on Jan 4, 2007 2:52 PM PST reply actions

For sports games to me, graphics are just about
last on whats important. Gameplay, realism, and accuracy are what matters most. Cool graphics are just icing on the cake.

whatever
that was the most unrealistic thing i've ever seen. Felix giving up hits, Derek Jeter making a good defensive play, Billy Crosby actually playing instead of being on the DL. You can't seriously buy any of that stuff for a second

To be fair
Felix's hit looked like a ground ball.

Supposedly
one of the lead developers from the MVP games switched over to the 2K series to help revamp the series. Pretty good news.

Gameplay, Gameplay, Gameplay
MVP Baseball was the best baseball game ever. I tried to play 2k last year and thought it was garbage. I love baseball video games and couldn't bring myself to buy it. (My friend had it.) So yeah, the graphics look great. But I'm waiting for a game that plays like MVP Baseball from a couple years back. I miss that game.

And a) college baseball just isn't the same and b) they aren't making it for 360 apparently.

by phil333 on Jan 4, 2007 7:40 PM PST reply actions

Was last year the first time you tried 2k?
Because that was the worst one since 2k2. Its name rights battle was the worst thing to happen to sports games. MLB 2k now sucks and Madden now sucks because EA and 2K don't have to compete with one another.

Hopefully this years is better because they did say they tried to revamp it.

by Scruffy Lefty on Jan 4, 2007 7:56 PM PST up reply actions

Last year was the first year I tried 2k as well
and I thought it sucked majorly.

But as noted above, one of the guys who worked on MVP(which I agree, was the King of baseball video games) is working on 2K now, so maybe it will be improved.

I'll rent it(along with The Show) and check it out. Hopefully one of them is worth a buy.

The only craptastic thing is that they aren't making a PC version of these games, which are always superior IMO to the console versions.

The hitting style for MVP
was just unreal. I too tried 2k for the first time last year. Man was I dissapointed.

I kinda like Madden
I was a huge 2k football fan, however I really like a lot of the new controls for Madden.

by tkballer22 on Jan 5, 2007 7:56 AM PST up reply actions

The new madden is ok
just the fact I can't play 4 player coop on my 360 espically when they added blocking controls is ridiculous and the character models make everyone look like hulk hogan.

by Scruffy Lefty on Jan 5, 2007 8:55 AM PST up reply actions

I wihs Madden
would have added Owner Mode for 360 this year. Otherwise I like the game fine.

MVP v. 2k
I have to be honest..I own both. (MVP for Xbox, 2k6 for 360)

First off..I thought 2k6 was just okay.  I like the pitching in 2k6 much better.  I thought it was more realistic than most games.  I found it amazing that from the view behind the pitcher's mound, you could watch the pitcher change the ball in his hand depending on what pitch he was throwing.  I thought it was easier to strike out batters and I actually walked people, unlike MVP.

I thought the batting was at first difficult to grasp, but then after a few games, I got the hang of it and it became extremely easy.  When I had 35 homeruns in one month between Sexson and Ibanez, I knew something was wrong.

Defensively, I thought the game was easy.  You could dive and catch almost anything.  Everytime I climbed the wall, I made the grab, and I hated how the throws looked, the player would be angled towards home, the arm angle would be towards home, but the ball would be thrown to first.

I know what has been said about the 2k franchise, however I think the new version will be MUCH better.  I was a HUGE fan of MVP as well as the early All-Star Baseball for the N64.  I am hoping that 2k Sports have taken a page from both.

My hope is that 2k will add a minor league system.  This is what made my MVP experience that much better.  I thought it was close to the total package when it came to baseball games.  The only downfalls were that the hitting style was too easy and I just couldnt strike out a lot of batters.

So we'll have to wait until March to see...

MVP for XBOX
In MVP striking people out was hard if you didn't have an out pitch.  Also you needed to paint the corners.  A good 4 seam FB, or change up and in works wonders.

You could climb the walls every time and catch anything, the glitches of the ball hitting the outfielder in the head instead of the glove sucked so you ended up having to run around the spot of where the ball would drop so you would do a running catch which in this game was a higher percentage play.  The computer would randomly put players in as catcher.  The knuckleball was the hardest pitch in the game and random people had it.  I think Meche had one in MVP 05.  Also the missed bunt.......ugh....every missed bunt turned into a passed ball.

The franchise mode was decent due to a minor league system, but you could have an injury in one game and the next day he would be fine.

The one thing that will always bug me about MLB games is the fake players.  How Bonds is Joe Young, and Millar is someone else.  I know i know the players union, but still drives me nuts.

The best thing about this game was if you played against another human the game turned into NBA Jam of baseball.  Homeruns galore, nary a strikeout or double play so that aspect was fun.

Millar is funny
he didn't want to be in the game because he didn't want people to hate him because he wasn't good in the game.

Is this the truth?
PartyPoker.Net - Helping people think they can play real poker since 2001.

by Christian on Jan 5, 2007 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

No . . .
Millar was a replacement player in 1995, so he's not part of MLBPA and can't be in the game.  The only player (that I know of) who isn't in baseball video games for non-strike reasons is Bonds.

Bonus: Millar's fake name for APBA was "Mike Butcher".

Any reason he is not in them?

Wow, I've never played the X-Box versions
The PC version has NONE of those glitches. At least mine doesn't. Though it is heavily modded thanks to mvpmods.com.

Sometimes I have a hard time NOT walking people. The datafile I'm using has the green as a sliver. And the only time you can go walkless is if your on your game or if your using a pitcher with pinpoint control. I do agree with the K's though. It takes strategy.

I've never had that outfield glitch either. I'm glad I don't. That must suck. I've also never seen anybody with a knuckleball who wasn't supposed to have one. But again my rosters are heavily modded(thus accurate). The knuckleball is hard to hit, but not impossible.I actually found it easier just to ignore it all together and wait for the fastball or whatever. I'd generally just walk against those guys(and steal like crazy) or I'd get a good fastball to drive.

They could have at least
made Joe Young black. Or on MVP, Jon Dowd.

by Mariner John on Jan 5, 2007 11:19 PM PST up reply actions

Just a side note To me MVP until last year seemed
to have all its outfield hits go to the same places. I may be wrong on this but there were never bloop hits. 2k5 had bloop hits which added to the realizim but I didn't play 2k6 because I heard way to much negative feedback from it.

Anyone remember Tecmo Baseball for the SNES?
Like the other Tecmo games, it had all the players and teams, and gameplay was pretty smooth for the time.  When you struck someone out, you'd hear, "Strike three.... siddown," or "Strike three... YOUUUUUUU STINK!"

by Gomez on Jan 6, 2007 2:01 PM PST up reply actions

I never played that
but Ken Griffey had pretty memorable strikeouts too.  The crappy/great part about Ken Griffey is that they didn't have player names but instead most teams had a theme to all the names.  I think the Royals were all different presidents.  It was good times.

by Edgar for Pres on Jan 6, 2007 3:24 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah that was a great game.
Anybody remember the Triple Play series?

Triple Play 99's home run derby was freaking awesome!
