Bucky Jacobsen is a long way from the majors

Geoff Baker
looks at how Bucky went from being the next Edgar to tearing down aluminium signs in a downpour while hoping for a deal to play in Korea.

300 character Bucky fact:

"Bucky used to be notable as one of the few comic book deaths that stuck. A frequent aphorism among comic book fans, known as the Bucky Clause, was that "No one in comics stays dead except Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben." Ironically, all three have recently been brought back to life in their respective universes, though Uncle Ben lasted for only a short time."

And yet...
...They STILL show that Banner Bank commercial with Bucky.
Iceberg, right ahead!

Here is a crazy/stupid idea
Our club doesn't really have that much depth in the minors at the 1B/DH style of pure hitters.  If Lahair can't repeat the end of last year we don't have much of anything.  Maybe, just maybe we could have a spot for him somewhere.  Ok, I've come back to my senses.  He'd just be taking ABs away from players who might develop.  That plus he's getting too old for the minors.  Sorry Bucky.

Oh the real question is which is a better DH...Vidro or Bucky?

Vidro, sadly
unless Bucky has lost 70 pounds since the last time we saw him play.

This is why I don't feel -that- sorry for him
I don't really know all the specifics, but it seems like he had a beautiful chance, got hurt, and then instead of working back, he let himself go.

The anti-Doyle, more or less.

Yep, completely agree.
He had his chance. Sadly for us it didn't work out.

I think the
bum knee led to the weight.  Well probably some of the weight.  The rest may have been pork induced.  Can you really blame him?  Bacon is so good.  I feel sorry for all the people who can't have it due to religious reasons.

I don't
religion is a personal choice.

True
and any deity going up against bacon is fighting a losing battle.

Well
Last time I saw Bucky play in Tacoma, he looked like he'd eaten Walter Young.  And a cow.  Make that two cows.  He was freakin' huge.  He also struck out a lot.  It was sad.

That's why the article was interesting
for me.  I'd heard the "Bucky let himself go" stories, and when I read this, it almost seemed like he was doing damage control:

"he admits he tried to rush back too soon."
"Jacobsen's biggest fear . . . had been that the Mariners . . .would think he was "milking it" simply to collect a big-league paycheck while not having to play"

Plus there's all the references to Bucky doing daily workouts.  I guess he's learned his lesson.

Hell Yes
Sign him to a minor league contract as a DH.  That way he won't take too many at bats away from position players.

Nothing to lose, plus he might replace WFB as a fan favorite, allowing us to trade WFB + cash to St. Louis for Eckstein, whom the fans will also love.
