LaRoche for Gonzalez

So I guess this trade finally went through.  Weird how it took forever, wasn't this supposed to go through a month ago?  Soriano is probably equal to Gonzalez, so that means we could have gotten LaRoche.  Oh well.

So....
Is ATL looking for a 1B now?
Sexson for Soriano?

by AnotherAaron on Jan 17, 2007 3:15 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Scott Thorman
will likely replace LaRoche.

If Bavasi had been creative, we could have made deals with either/or ATL and PIT.

Ugh.

There's also...
Rumors that the Braves will eventually move McCann to first base.

I assume the move would be for Saltamacchia.

Weird
I always thought it was Saltalamachia who was going to move the 1st because of his defense.

I assume the move would be
so they could keep his bat in the lineup without having to give him catcher-knee days off.  He would have been battling for the NL batting crown for quite a while there, but just wasn't going to get the ABs necessary.  Joe Mauer got to DH a lot to stay in the race, but that wasn't an option for McCann.

(and yeah, I had McCann and Mauer on my fantasy team.  I had LaRoche too for a while, come to think of it.  My excellent talent evaluation strategies worked out pretty well.)

So, Deanna...
What do your "excellent talent evaluation strategies" think about Chris Reitsma?  Just curious...

Well
I'm certainly not drafting him.

Just an aside,
But I'd say that the Braves' efforts to upgrade the bullpen worked out pretty well.

Soriano and Gonzalez?  WOW.

Not just Gonzalez
The Pirates also threw in SS Brent Lillibridge.  He is a very good prospect.

Lillibridge is a significant trade chip.  The Braves are getting a lot more than Gonzalez.

Ex-Husky!
Yeah, Lillibridge was the #3 Pirates prospect on Sickels list, I believe.

But then, Jamie Romak, a 21-yo power hitter out of Canada, is moderately intriguing too.   To be clear, I think the Braves are getting the better 'spect, to balance the fact that they gave up a slightly better MLB player, but Romak is moderately intriguing - kind of a Scott Thorman mixed with Rob Deer thing going on.

He was a bit old for the SAL, but but up some impressive ISO-patience and power numbers.  Struck out a TON - seriously, this guy makes Wlad Balentien look like Ichiro - but walked a ton too.

Well,
at least we aren't the only team that got taken by Schuerholz...

by tait644 on Jan 17, 2007 9:37 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

yes, except
the Pirates have a long, long history of making incredibly retarded trades.  It's like, you guys think being a Mariners fan now is hard, you should have lived in Pittsburgh in the late 90's and early 2000's.  In the eight years I was there, the Pirates never had a winning record... while the Mariners were winning 116 games in 2001, we were losing 100.

Pretty much any time I started to like a Pirates player, they got traded.  It was retarded.

The Braves are also...
throwing in outfielder Jamie Romak.
