i voted Dan Rohn
because I think he has earned a shot at it, but the buzz seems to be that they may go with someone from outside the organization.

When you say "People are making noise", what do you mean? Are those people named "Softy", by chance?

This FO can make some really stupid decisions (and has!), but I have to believe they are not this dumb.

Yea...Softy
How many winning streaks have we had this year that were immediately followed by losing streaks of similar lengths?

Hargrove sucks, he has to go.

Wow...Jose, you FUCKING SUCK NOW!

i thought...
softy was on the bandwagon of getting hargrove the hell outta seattle. its mitch in the morning who really believes hargrove should stay...

Not Softy...
I am living in Boise and don't get KJR over here...I read it on www.benmaller.com and here:  http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/15467615.htm

Makes me sick to think of him coming back next year....

Y'know, for all I dislike Hargrove
Bob Melvin would have broken Felix by now.

Moot point
because the neither would/will never win under either.

Mike Hargrove isn't going to be the manager next year. A 10-5 "streak" isn't going to change that. The record against the AL West alone will probably doom him.

I hope....
you are right...but the front office has a history of doing stupid things.  They make decisions out of an appearance of "safety" and hope for the best.  The magic 8 ball hasn't worked thus far.  I know it is too much to ask, but giving everyone but Bavasi a box and five minutes to gather their personal effects would be a great way to say, "Buy your season tickents now...before they are all gone...the times they are a changin'"

Hargrove is really the only one that needs to go
Lincoln and Armstrong it would be nice, but it's not necessary like Grover.

If Bavasi has any pull whatsoever, than Hargrove is canned.

by Matthew on Sep 8, 2006 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why do you say that?
Hargrove and Bavasi are pretty close, from what I have seen on the road.  Not as close as Hargrove and his coaching staff.  They do everything together after the games.

Bavasi
has said that he didn't really want to hire Hargrove
I will come at you like a spider monkey

Because it's the truth
People in the know around the blogosphere have already said that if if were completely up to Bavasi, Hargrove would be gone.

Bavasi wanted to can Hargrove in May.

Fire Mike Hargrove!

Missed Opportunities...
When I got the chance to chat with Bavasi back in July (right before the trading deadline), I really wish I'd've been able to dig deeper about this exact issue.  I regret not asking him about Hargrove's status and, specifically, if firing him was a decision that he could unobstructedly make (i.e. w/o interference from CHowArmLinStrong).

We really won't know until October.  More and more signs point to Hargrove being replaced.  But, really, we can only speculate about it.  I suspect that Bavasi is probably having to be very tactful with this issue, specifically because his arse is hovering over the campfire as well...

Free George Sherrill. And Dan Rohn.

That, and...
Bavasi's loyal to a fault.  Not sure how loyal he feels towards Hargrove, but my guess is that he's somewhat loyal to him since Hargrove's still here...

d'you really think...
...he would have been honest with you, had you asked?  Something tells me that he wouldn't talk about stuff like that to (no offense) some random guy - I could be wrong, but I'm thinking he'd spout some platitudes and more on...
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

by pdb on Sep 8, 2006 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually...
Provided I was tactful about it, I honestly do believe he would.  He's been completely honest with me before when I've approached him off the mike at FanFest, and I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't continue to do so.

Obviously, though, the key is in how I would've asked the question.  He would've blown me off if I would've asked "So, Bill, when are you going to fire Hargrove?"  Had I asked a more procedural question, like "Do you have total control over managerial decisions, or does the executive front office collectively make the decision?" he defintely would've responded.

But, really, the timing wasn't really appropriate. I couldn't generate the tactful question quick enoug, and I really didn't want to bug him.

And the real reason: my son really, really, really had to pee.

Free George Sherrill. And Dan Rohn.

the moral of the story applies to Hargrove
When you've gotta go, you gotta go.

by jtopps on Sep 8, 2006 4:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey now
I wasn't saying he should stay. I was just relieved that he isn't taking the Baker/Melvin cavalier approach to starting pitcher health.

Hargrove
To me, the 0-11 stretch vs. AL West opponents that sent us flying out of contention is FAR more damaging than the 10-5 stretch is helping.  And really, the whole 10-5 record is meaningless.  The team went 3-3 on their recent road trip and they basically played like crap, at least at the plate, stranding a whole heap of runners on base.

This is a .500 team sitting 7 games under almost entirely due to Hargrove's miss-management.

I have to believe Dan Rohn is the favorite for next year simply because he knows this team, and some of its younger players even moreso.  This FO also went with Raffy Chaves over Mel Stottlemire, I'd have to think they'd go with Rohn over any big name manager what will be available (that I know of).

Grover
wow more votes for Dusty over Grover.

I voted for anyone but Hargrove.

Girardi seems like he would be great, but I dont know much about him.  His he making the right calls?, or is this just a real talented Marlins team thats winning, the Marlins seem to be a close team which is nice.

As an example has Girardi gone to guys like Mateo in high leverage situation and they happen to get the job done.

I don't want to go with Girardi just cause he has a team over .500

Baker?
Young guys would play less under him. He's notorious for using veterans over young guys unless he has no choice. Plus he'd ruin a certain future ace.
Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck
