Good for him
He's an ex-Mariner prospect who didn't have a chance to play for us, and if he's doing well elsewhere, more power to him.

by Graham on Aug 3, 2006 7:40 PM PDT   0 recs

How annoying is that?
Not one bit.

He's just another player now. I could care less what he does.

Not to be anal
but it's "couldn't care less". :-P

by bluemax on Aug 4, 2006 10:15 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It's actually both
"could care less" means the same colloquially as "couldn't care less," even thought it technically means the exact opposite.

by Rollo Tomasi on Aug 4, 2006 2:08 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

In my book
"could care less" is clearly a bastardisation rather than a colloquiallism, and as such requires correction whenever deployed.  Verbal corruption that forcibly converts a phrase's interpretation from literal to idiomatic in order to preserve its original meaning is simply not on. :-)

And whilst I'm venting light-hearted spleen, another pet peeve of mine is use of "transition" as a verb.  No, no and thrice no!

And just to bring this post back to baseball (and squeeze in a dig at Anaheim), I give you "Chone" Figgins.  Bad for ball.

by Alex B on Aug 5, 2006 12:32 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Why would you be bothered by this?
He beat the Red Sox. Good.

He never would have played for us, so we got a good non-rental player in return. Good.

What's the downside?

by Rollo Tomasi on Aug 3, 2006 8:07 PM PDT   0 recs

Who gives a shit?
Why don't you make a diary post for every player on another team that hits a homer.

In the meantime, tell us how Sandfrog, Aurilia, Cirillo, and Guardado are doing. It's not posted everyday on every M's board on the web or anything.

by PLU Tim on Aug 3, 2006 8:24 PM PDT   0 recs

Likeability
I think why people care about Choo is that he was liked by people (especially in Tacoma) we fell out of favor with Sandfrog, Aurilia and Cirillo early, and Guardado just recently.  I still see what Eddie is up to and I wish him well as the closer of the Reds.  The Choo-Mania will die down eventually.  I know he's no Junior, but shit people STILL follow what he does.

Coming into today's game, Choo was only hitting .190.

Yeah and also, for those who didn't actually
watch the game. Choo recieved a fastball from Beckett right down the pipe. So as long as he hit it, it wasn't that hard for him to put it out.

He still looks foolish on any and all breaking balls.

Whatever has happened to Josh Beckett?
He seemed like an absolute steal in the off-season: young, cheap and talented.  Another case of the NL being easier to ply your trade in?

by Alex B on Aug 4, 2006 4:16 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

But...
.286/.412/.714/1.126 for the Indians.

Wow
You guys are brutal.  It is fairly normal to have feelings like this when a player who never got a real shot is traded and plays well once he does get a shot elsewhere (granted it is early in Choo's case).  Tkballer22 is right on the nose that Cirillo, Aurillia, Speizio, etc. all had a shot here and never performed close to their ability.  This is more like Podsednik, Varitek, Lowe, etc.  If we didn't care about guys once they were gone would we still talk about that trade???

You can try to act tough and say you don't care about someone once they are gone, but it is just BS.

And to make it sound like anyone could have hit the Beckett pitch for a homer is just ridiculous.

I thought this was an open forum for Mariners fans.  Here's an idea - if you don't like someone's post 1) don't read it, or 2) don't respond to it if you do read it.

by Geeves72 on Aug 3, 2006 9:46 PM PDT   0 recs

Here's the thing
And this may be way off base, but hey I'm gonna say it anyways.

Everytime the Mariners make a trade or dump a player and that player does good elsewhere, people have to point it out, as if to say "Haha! You guys fucked up by trading this player, or dumping this player! HAHAHAHAHA!"

And some of us are a little sick of it.

Now that may not be the reason this topic was started at all. But it sure seems like it.

Fire Mike Hargrove!

by Goose on Aug 3, 2006 9:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No
no, that wasn't why I started it.  I know it was a good trade, and like everyone has said above this, it is cool that he is having success elsewhere.

It's just that knee-jerk response when you see a player immediately have success somewhere else - it may not be rational, but (to me at least) there is always a little bit of that "God damn it" feeling.

And, FYI, I have only been a Mariners fan since the beginning of this season, so I don't have any historical context...I know similar things have hapenned before, but I haven't really experienced it.

I have an idea too
How about you follow your own rules for posting and I'll follow mine?

by Graham on Aug 4, 2006 1:23 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Haha
Wow, i sense a little hostility from the late night posters.  However, i must agree with you graham, 1.  who gives a shit and 2.  an open forum is an open forum, say whatever you want.  As for the psych lesson from the previous poster about "typically normal to have feelings of sadness and despondence after loosing a well liked player" or whatever thanks dude but who cares, it appears most people could care less what Choo is doing and wish him well, he had no place in this organization.

Nice
It takes a big man to take cheap shots at someone who is stating what were obviously innocent feelings.  Sure, if he says "we never should have traded Choo because he hit a grand slam" then you have reason to argue.  That clearly wasn't the case here.

There are a ton of know-it-all's around here.  Too bad there are not more baseball fans.

someone has an inferiority complex.

by Matthew on Aug 4, 2006 2:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

What's cheap
Like I mentioned and rljaws mentioned and come to think of it YOU mentioned, this is an open forum.  I am expressing an opinion.  My opinion is "who cares if Choo hit a grand slam, he does not play for the Mariners anymore, they guy we got for him already hit a homerun too"  Those are my innocent feelings.  I am a baseball fan, i like a grand slam same as the next guy, but i don't particulary care for Choo or care that he is no longer a Mariner/Raineer so again who cares.

I am in no way arguing or telling anyone they are wrong, except for you, because you make sweeping statements about others then contradict them by doing the very thing that you are condemning, HOWEVER i am merely expressing an OPINION that I don't care about Choo.

Let's chill
The original post was quite innocuous, as were most of the responses to it. However, Geeves, as well as myself, felt that some of the responses were a little bit harsh, cheap, etc. Either way, whatever. I'm sure appleshampoo is a big kid and can handle it.

by Rollo Tomasi on Aug 4, 2006 2:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm only 12
And you guys made me cry.

I'm going to go hide in my treehouse now.

Also
"I thought this was an open forum for Mariners fans."

It is

"if you don't like someone's post, don't respond to it"

that would sort of negate the whole "open forum" idea don't you think? It's a two-way street buddy.

Adding fuel to the fire
Choo had an RBI double in the first against Bonderman.

by jtopps on Aug 4, 2006 4:20 PM PDT   0 recs

Adding more fuel to the fire
Freddy Garcia probably smoked a huge bowl in the ChiSox clubhouse, and nobody bothered him about it.

Firewood...
Sandfrog did a 45 minute air guitar solo in the showers.

by anotherjeff on Aug 4, 2006 4:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

wow, Im impressed
he can last for 45 minutes? It doesn't take me nearly that long. Huh? You were talking about an actual air guitar solo? Oh. uhhhhhhhh, ::whistles and walks away briskly::

by Matthew on Aug 4, 2006 5:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
He had his back turned, and when teammates walked in the shower, they thought he was doing a different kind of solo....
