Can Anybody Think of a Reason Not to Fire Grover Now?
I can't. Given the state of the team at this point, wouldn't it make sense to audition Dan Rohn (or anybody for that matter)rather than postpone the inevitable? I don't get the impression that the players like or respect Hargrove, so wouldn't they be likely to respond favorably to the idea that management is not going to tolerate the status quo?

Save public face
There's just not a lot to gain by firing him this close to the end of the season.
Firing Hargrove
Now though? Well, it's over. Team Hargrove has become the AL West's whipping boy. Better to let Hargrove bury his own grave rather than punish someone else with the after-effects.
This is definately beyond a question of "if". All we need to is answer the question of "when" Hargrove will be fired.
I agree with this
Well, if you need a reason to keep him...
They're currently sitting at the 12th pick, but could easily fall down to 7th or 8th by the end of the year.
I'd rather finish the season at .500, but if Grover's going to stick around until the end of the year, some good may as well come of it.

He deserves to stay because
Also, he's been a positive role model for his son, Willie.

I just hope
Firing Grover
If you can't outmotivate and you can outthink your opposition, what exactly do you have to offer?
Fire him now and see if Rohn can do the job.
Of course the M's aren't going to win this year whoever they hire, but replacing Grover might mean that Ichiro & Kenji & whoever actually thinks about how to win a game do not have to commit intellectual seppuku on a gamely basis.
