Well that's not entirely true.
I do have a few things to say, but I wouldn't feel right publishing them on the front page of a family website.

While I'm willing to concede that Mike Hargrove will play Carl Everett until Bavasi forcibly removes him from the roster, I'm more than ready for a lot more Willie Ballgame and a lot less Jeremy Reed. He's hopeless.

It causes me great pain to admit...
But I agree. I've been on the "Reed's gonna get it together" band wagon for a long time. While that may still be a true statement, the stakes have gotten a little high to be patient with him. Considering there is no real alternative at this point, Willie Ballgame need to be getting some of these wasted at bats. It's certainly worth a shot. There is little to lose in this situation except for Reeds glove.

In closing....Josh Fogg? WTF was that? The M's ever making a turd sparkle like a gold nugget.

Good News from Tacoma...at least
Choo, Jones, and Snelling all with multi-hit nights so far.  Snelling with 3 rbi.

Cruceta with 7 ip, 3 er, 2 bb, and 11 k...

Good
Call one of them up, and trade Reed to somebody for a prospect.

Moyer was the only one who showed up
Seriously, this team has a complacency problem against weak SPs.  They see a crap pitcher, don't bother trying, and end up giving the guy the easiest night of his career.

I'd say try to swing a Reed/et al for Lofton/et al deal, but I don't think we have anyone LA would want, and Ned Colletti has a veteran fetish anyway.

Starting Willie would shut him up, but it wouldn't help our offense or defense any.  I don't anticipate anyone offering a decent CF in a deal, assuming we'd find anybody willing to take Reed in a separate deal for anything of value.

I will add that Reed, like after yesterday's win, is nothing more than an idle item of discussion if the rest of this lineup bothered to show up today.  All we needed was a little bit of offense, and they couldn't even do that.  Today was a team-wide problem, and not just a Jeremy Reed Blows Bighorn Sheep In The Desert While Scorpions Sting His Buttcrack problem.

1 strikeout?
How in god's name did Fogg 2-hit us while only getting one strikeout? What is wrong with our hitters?

At least it was a quick death.
Seriously, it barely feels like their was a game today.

I think it's pretty sad
That there were only 27 plate appearances.
Of course, the whole performance was pretty sad, except for Jamie. He was real solid tonight. You feel sorry for him.

Just how bad was it?
Colorado fans are debating whether or not that was the greatest game by a Rockies pitcher in franchise history.

Gotta tip our hat to the starting pitcher.
He pitched really well today.  Mariner offense is really tough to shut out so congratulations to ___________ for being able to mow us down.

a) Joe Blanton (Oak)
b) Barry Zito (Oak)
c) Nate Robertson (Det)
d) C.C. Sabathia (Cle)
e) Scott Kazmir (TB)
f) Rodrigo "8.0" Lopez (Bal)
g) John Rheinecker (Tex)
h) Joseph Matthew Blanton (Oak)
i) Josh "5.0" Fogg (Col)

Seriously though
The way the M's get shut out is disturbing:

5-0: Once
3-0: Once
2-0: SIX FREAKIN' TIMES!
1-0: Once

Moyer, Meche, and Washburn are the main starters getting hosed by the offense going to sleep.

I didn't see the game but that doesn't prevent me from figuring out that the Josh Fogg shutout was clearly the worst.  Where to begin?  One strikeout?  Throwing only 64% strikes?  Only 94 pitches thrown?  No one makes it past 1st base?  What in the hell were they swinging at?

Of course, I didn't expect beating the Rockies to be easy.  They're rolling over AL opponents just like we roll over NL opponents.  On top of that I'm more confident in their next two pitchers getting the job done than ours.  This may be a brand new M's team but some of the same crap remains.  But whatever, let's go get'em.

What I don't get is how Hargrove just sits there
and tells them not to change something.

I mean it would be so easy to drive up his pitch count at least a little.

It's very simple.

Tell every single batter to take the first pitch regardless. And do it in every at bat.It doesn't matter if its the fattest home run pitch the world has ever seen, watch it go by.At the very minimum that forces the pitcher to throw at least 2 pitchers per at bat.

And then to expand on that, after the first pitch is thrown, tell them to keep taking pitches, until the pitcher throws strike one.Every single time.Regardless. The bat sits on your shoulders until the umpire says strike 1.

Yeah thats gonna limit you to 2 strikes per at bat instead of three, but it forces him to throw more pitches. On top of that, after the first few innings it forces him to throw strikes. I mean, if you do that for say three innings or whatever, things might actually start to change.

It might not be practical, but its a hell of a lot better than what they did tonight.

Oak got shut out twice by Col
in Col. It happens.

We don't have to go off the deep end every time the team gets shut out.

by Matthew on Jul 1, 2006 11:12 AM PDT up reply actions

no but its frustrating
Jamie pitched well. Oakland lost. Texas won. A win would have been huge. One game out!!

by phil333 on Jul 1, 2006 11:42 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't mind losing
I just can't stand losing 2-0, or the fact that 8 of the 9 shutouts include wasted quality starts.

Other than that, the game caps off the best month in years.  I'll gladly take it.

Yeah
But Oakland hoovers goat cock, so fuck them.
