You know...
i wouldn't be that shocked if Yuni ended up hitting around .300. It would be one of those .300/.320/.375 lines, but that's waaaay more than we expected.

by sactown257 on Jun 7, 2006 8:34 PM PDT reply actions

I think if he hits .300
his SLG will be a little higher than .375

by anky on Jun 7, 2006 8:35 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, you're right
yuni does hit those triples, and he's showing some power this year too.

come on, make me eat my words.

by sactown257 on Jun 7, 2006 8:35 PM PDT reply actions

by BrettJMiller on Jun 7, 2006 8:40 PM PDT reply actions

Why was Lopez standing two feet off the plate in the first place?  He had to take a full step forward just to swing at that pitch.  Bad batters-box placement.

well.
that was almost a bunt.

Fire Mike Hargrove!

by MT on Jun 7, 2006 8:41 PM PDT reply actions

Good God
Ichiro already has 2500 hits (including Japan) and he is only 32

So my question is when he retires do you think they should include his stats from Japan when they talk about the hall of fame?

Hargrove needs to go away

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 7, 2006 8:43 PM PDT reply actions

No
it's the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He still might make it based on his averages, though.

by Rollo Tomasi on Jun 7, 2006 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Yah
It's not like we include international players in MLB after all...

by manyoso on Jun 7, 2006 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

it's kind of funny
how they consider the expeience that the Japanese players have in Japan when voting for awards at the end of the yr (MVP, Rookie of the Yr) but they don't consider their stats for other purposes.  Inconsistent to say the least.

by MT on Jun 7, 2006 8:47 PM PDT up reply actions

What?
If they considered experience in Japan for rookie of the year award, then Ichiro and Sasaki and Nomo would not have won rookie of the year. And I don't see what playing in Japan in the past has to do with the MVP award.

by Rollo Tomasi on Jun 7, 2006 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions

well a lot of writers say they shouldn't be
considered rookies but those guys still end up with the award.

I think Japan is advanced enough league that there stats should transfer but thats my opinion

Hargrove needs to go away

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 7, 2006 8:51 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not a question of being advanced enough
The National Baseball Hall of Fame only uses this nation as a criteria. No, Canada doesn't count as a seperate country.

by Rollo Tomasi on Jun 7, 2006 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions

I know
but there should at least be a astrisk?

Its not Ichiro's fault he has to play for 10 year in Japan before he could come here

Hargrove needs to go away

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 7, 2006 8:56 PM PDT up reply actions

oops
sorry.  not MVP.  but I remember that Matsui didn't get any votes for ROY from a few of the voters because the voters didn't think he was a legit rookie, because he had professional experience in Japan.

by MT on Jun 7, 2006 8:51 PM PDT up reply actions

It's possible they do
They may not have too.He may have 2500+ American hits when he's done.As long as he keeps his career average as high as it is, I think he's a shoe in.
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions

thats my feeling
is that he would have done enough in MLB when its all said in done to make it into the hall.

But if they include the Hits from Japan he could make a run at Pete Rose if he plays long enough

Hargrove needs to go away

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 7, 2006 8:46 PM PDT up reply actions

As of this post he has 1311 MLB hits to go along
with his 1278 Japan hits.Let's say he retires at 40.So he has 8 seasons left after this one. He's projected for 239 hits this year.Let's drop that down to 225 just for hell of it.Meaning that by the end of this year he will have 1444 MLB hits.I doubt he averages 200 hits for the next 8 years, but lets say he does for the next 3.I'll say he averages 220.So by the time he is 35 he'll have roughly 2100 MLB hits. He'll start to decline in his next 5 years then lets say, so we'll put him at 750 hits for the next 5 years. That puts up around 2800-2900 MLB hits.

About 4200 in total.Rose had 4256.

Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 8:51 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he's gonna have to average those 220 hits
for at least the next 4 seasons after this one to have a chance.Either that or play till he's 42 or 43.

If that doesn't happen, I don't think he'll get there.

Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Good Grief...
So let me get this straight, Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige rack up stats against many rag-tag beer league teams and thier stats are more relevant than what Ichiro did in a high level professional league?

by PLU Tim on Jun 7, 2006 9:01 PM PDT up reply actions

No one was arguing...
that the Negro Leagues are better than Japan. It's a different country and the title is National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Is this guy superman or something?
Cause Green's doing all he can to not have to face him.

by The Dude on Jun 7, 2006 9:05 PM PDT reply actions

Close enough
With how hot Ichiro is, Mauer is 5 times hotter.
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

Mauer

by Gomez on Jun 7, 2006 9:06 PM PDT reply actions

Good job Green
Better than him hitting a double or something.
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

Nice work Green,
We're counting on you tonight.

by ThundaPC on Jun 7, 2006 9:08 PM PDT reply actions

Good Job.
Twins suck. Except Mauer.

by JLC on Jun 7, 2006 9:08 PM PDT reply actions

My brother
has a Twins hat with Lew Ford's autograph.

He's clearly practicing some dark magic.

by Garces on Jun 7, 2006 9:10 PM PDT reply actions

Now, does anyone...
...really want to put their money in Banner Bank with their low-budget "Bucky" retread commercial.  Hello!  He's no longer in Seattle's system.  He's done as a major leaguer...

Stupid laptop.  Darn near 10 years old.  I started booting it up about 3 innings ago.  I'm not joking.

Free George Sherrill. And Dan Rohn.

by PositivePaul on Jun 7, 2006 9:11 PM PDT reply actions

Oh man
i kinda want bloomquist to pinch hit somewhere, just for the hilarity of "willie" facing "willie."

by sactown257 on Jun 7, 2006 9:11 PM PDT reply actions

Much like last year vs the Indians
When Yuniesky Betancourt faced Rafael Betancourt.

Ok
is it normal for me to be encouraged by this team again?

by sactown257 on Jun 7, 2006 9:25 PM PDT reply actions

To be perfectly honest
They still look like shit to me.  Until they reel off a serious winning streak where it's clear that consistency is not a problem, I'm not going to change.
YAY JOSE!

by WAB on Jun 7, 2006 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree, but I think indvidual performances
may be real.

word
I'll get excited when they are challenging for first in this shitty division.  And for what it is worth, the Angel's and Texas won tonight, but Oakland lost.

by manyoso on Jun 7, 2006 9:29 PM PDT up reply actions

DAMN
Ichiro hitting, Ibanez hitting, BIG RICHIE hitting, Adrian hitting....

... you think....?  No, couldn't be.

by Gomez on Jun 7, 2006 9:25 PM PDT reply actions

Glad to see that.
Not too worried about Richie though.

by BrettJMiller on Jun 7, 2006 9:26 PM PDT reply actions

Go for the cycle Richie!!
Oh wait....
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 9:26 PM PDT reply actions

IBANEZ
What brand of roids did he take, and why haven't they been distributed to all the other hitters yet?

by JLC on Jun 7, 2006 9:26 PM PDT reply actions

except for C-Ev
he can go to hell.

by sactown257 on Jun 7, 2006 9:28 PM PDT up reply actions

last 3 weeks or so.
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 9:27 PM PDT reply actions

you all don't get to see this
There's a Twins commercial where a kid gives Joe Mauer some water, and Joe rips off his sideburns and slaps 'em on the kid.  Kinda gross.

by mfanmn on Jun 7, 2006 9:28 PM PDT reply actions

12,000 dollars
is going to prostate cancer research with every home run this game.  They should do that every night if it gets results like this

by anky on Jun 7, 2006 9:29 PM PDT reply actions

You know
Bringing in Sean Green was a surprisingly good managerial decision.  Wind blowing out, offense inflated... bring in the groundball pitcher to work middle relief.

However, this does not change reality.  Fire Mike Hargrove.

by Gomez on Jun 7, 2006 9:30 PM PDT reply actions

Credit were credit is due
Moving Beltre to the 2 hole=great move so far.

Still...Fire Mike Hargrove.

Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

He's MIA
I think we're on our own.
Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Green
That movement is sick. The way it goes back into the strikezone. I think I speak for Rick Rizzs when I say: "Holy Smokes!"

by JLC on Jun 7, 2006 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

Outings like this
make me wonder if Green could be a 4/5 starter?

by anky on Jun 7, 2006 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

Jeff swoops in, creates new thread
and swoops out.

He's like batman!

Fire Mike Hargrove. GO TWINS!!

by Goose on Jun 7, 2006 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

LOL
Sly work on Mr. Sullivan's part.

As Rizzs would say, "You've gotta like the sly work of Jeff Sullivan."
