A few snippets from the Yahoo! game preview:

The Oakland Athletics look for their eighth straight win over the Seattle Mariners when they continue their three-game series at McAfee Coliseum on Wednesday.
...
A's starters are 7-0 with a 0.72 ERA over the last seven games against the Mariners, allowing no runs on three occasions.
...
The Mariners have dropped 17 of their last 23 games at Oakland and realize they have to change that if they are to get back into contention.
...
Pineiro is 1-4 with a 7.09 ERA over his last six outings. He turned in another poor start when he gave up seven runs and nine hits over 5 1-3 innings in a 7-3 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.

The right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.04 ERA over his last three road starts.

Uh ohs.

LET'S GO MARINERS!

TIME FOR THE A'S TO FEAST
Like an episode of Springer, expect this to get ugly, and quickly.

You know
The problem is, I so totally expect the Mariners to lose tonight that they're going to pull this game out of their collective asses and then I'll have to find something positive to say about them.

So I should bet on tonight being something like an 8-2 Mariners win, just to be different.

Marinerds - a different daily dose of baseblog.

Fun inning:
Joel Zumaya pitching for Detroit
T Hall flied out to center.
T Lee struck out swinging, T Lee safe at first on passed ball by I Rodriguez.
J Lugo walked, T Lee to second.
C Crawford struck out swinging.
R Baldelli struck out swinging, R Baldelli safe at first on wild pitch by J Zumaya, T Lee to third, J Lugo to second.
J Cantu flied out to left.

He always seemed to have a pained look on his face when he K's.  I remember in a post-game interview he wasn't happy with himself despite the game winning HR, saying "Yeah, but I left about a million guys on base tonight."...he knows it, and he's unhappy.

Tacoma's Game
Cruceta has given up three home runs (including a back-to-back set), but the Rainiers are beating the Little A's 9-4 in the last inning (7th, they play two tonight).

by kva15 on Jun 14, 2006 8:10 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the good news
he's only given up 4 hits total
he's Ked 7 adn walked only 2

but the HRs are really mystifying. He had only given up 3 all season prior

by Matthew on Jun 14, 2006 8:11 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

also in other news
both Ferierband and Rohrbough pitched tonight and both were excellent with extra x.

by Matthew on Jun 14, 2006 8:13 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Even better
he pitched the complete game. The Rainiers pitching staff needed that! The HR's may just be an anomoly. Solo homers don't usually hurt too much. Maybe he was just challenging hitters trying to keep his pitch count down so he could save the staff.

They arent that bitter rivals w. the Oilers are they?? I definitely wanted the Oilers to win tonight and it was a beautiful finish.

Ozzie Guillen is a giant douche
Pierzynski was hit by pitches his first two at-bats, prompting home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi to issue warnings to both benches in the fourth. Pierzynski took a called third strike, a pitch on the outside corner, when he batted in the sixth.

Sean Tracey relieved Vazquez to start the seventh, and the right-hander got leadoff hitter Blalock out on a grounder. But White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen slammed a water bottle to the ground, changed pitchers and then was seen in the dugout barking at Tracey, who pulled the collar of his jersey over his head.

There was a time when the Coliseum was a decent place to watch a ballgame. This was before the Raiders moved back to Oakland and ruined the place.

I'm looking to do a little West Coast thing where I hit up ballgames in San Diego, Anaheim, LA, Oakland, San Francisco, and Seattle.

You could just skip Oakland and go to Sacramento to visit Raley Field, one of the best minor league parks in the country.

Then again, Raley Field is home to the A's Triple-A affiliate. So on second thought....
