[UPDATE] M's deny trade is in the works; Churchill stands by

Looks like the rumored trade that will have Livingston starting is on hold at the moment.

JasonAChurchill Says: April 24th, 2006 at 4:56 pm

Apparently, the Mariners want to start Bobby but until they have a spot for him they are claiming to "need someone who can get through 3 or 4 innings in relief.
"We don’t have any trades on the table at the moment and nobody is going on the DL anytime in the next few days, unless something happens tonight or tomorrow." Jason also says in comments and in a follow-up post that Livingston is not suited for relief work, but that they might use him there until the rumored trade goes down. I think Eddie just took a dump on this potential trade.

Update [2006-4-25 11:58:38 by manyoso]: This article seems pretty sure that Livingston has been called up for relief, NOT for a start: So far Livingston has done that, going 1-1 with a 2.12 earned run average in three starts with the Rainiers, walking just two in 17 innings. He becomes the Mariners' fourth left-handed reliever - joining Eddie Guardado, Jake Woods and George Sherrill - and will pitch in long relief situations.

"You don't see four left-handers in the bullpen very often," Hargrove said. "It doesn't matter if you throw left-handed or right-handed, if you throw strikes and get people out, that's OK."

Livingston is fine with that.

"It's tough at any level to throw balls and be successful," he said. "They've preached to us to get ahead strike one, then work your way from there. What I've always been able to do is throw strikes."

If a team...
Was willing to trade for Eddie after his last outing, I don't see how him giving up a solo HR would have changed that.

He actually threw the ball much better tonight.

GM's have emotions too.
He didn't throw the ball any better in my eyes.

Eddie's bread and butter is location and the ability to hit his spots for strikes.  Yes, he was able to actually throw strikes in this game, but it didn't help him much.

With every pitch, you could read Eddie's lips saying "Come on!" right before going into motion.  And with every release you could see Eddie cringe when the batter took a swing at the ball.

I think his pitches are completely hittable.  If he throws them over the plate, he is going to get crushed.  If he throws them for balls he is going to walk a lot of batters.  If he throws them for spot perfect location he's a good closer.

They have a guy
who can get thru 3-4 innings of relief.

His name is Gil Meche.

What if...
this move is also out of concern for Felix's finger and his ability to make his next start?

Oh please, don't say stuff like that
Now you're going to have me worried for the rest of the week...

It had better not be!
I'm going to Baltimore to see the King for the first time!

There is no way I'm going to put with Orioles fans if its for anything less than Felix.

Me too
though not in Baltimore, and not for the first time.  But, as the schedule shakes out right now, I'll get to see him in Chicago next week.

They wouldn't
have had to do it so soon, though, right?  Doc was promoted the day after Felix's start?  They could have waited a few days to see how he felt.

Felix is fine
Pitcher Felix Hernandez said the finger on his right hand that was nicked during Sunday’s game when he tried to bare-hand a ground ball is better, but still sore. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today and said he does not expect any problems.
