Around SBN: Identifying The 19th-Best Team In Baseball

"The King" has a nice inning...

Felix "The King" Hernandez pitched the first inning of today Charity Game versus the San Diego Padres.  He "wowed" the crowd, as well as the Padres, by striking out the side on only 13 pitches.  That was the only inning he pitched, by the way.

I don't have all the other details, on the game, only knowing that the final score was a 2-2 tie after going 10 innings.

It WAS on the radio after all...  Unfortunately I don't have good AM reception in my building, and I don't have the MLB audio service.  So I missed out on the M's two best pitchers (Felix and George) today.

Did anyone happen to catch it?  Details?  No box score, since it's the charity game and all.  I did hear about the 13 pitch inning by Felix (from Hickey on the PI Blog), but I'd like to know how George did.  And I'd like to know who gave up the HR to Walter Young (per MLB's scoreboard)  Probably Appier, since he pitched the 2nd (and the only runs for both teams came in the 2nd).

Man, it's merely the dress-rehearsal to spring training games, and here I am demanding box scores :-)

Since I work in the same building...
as the Mariners flagship, I listened to most of the game. The highlight was definitely Felix's outing. It was also nice to see Yubet drive in both runs. Other than Appier's 2 run homer, the pitching was pretty good. The pitchers should be ahead of everyone at this point so don't be surprised to see some of these low scoring games for the first couple days (unless some guy that was in A ball last year comes in and gets lit up).

You pretty much have to
work in the same building as KOMO in order to get any reception within any building, let alone thick-walled buildings 60 miles to the south.

Man, do I miss M's games on KIRO...

Appier=Done
First he gets pounded in the intersquad game and then he gives up 2 runs in 2 innings against San Diego?

I'd say the chances of him making the team are about zero at this point.

Good to see Felix dominate as usual, even if it was for only an inning.

We all should have a bit of Willie Bloomquist in us. ~Mike Hargrove

From Hardball Times
http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/top-50-starting-pitchers-for-2006-part-1/

Top 50 pitchers for 2006:

10. Felix Hernandez: I'm being kind of conservative by ranking the King 10th. He probably won't crack 200 innings, but an ERA near 3.00 with a 1.10 WHIP is within the kid's grasp. I expect 15+ wins and almost 200 Ks. He's being priced well past $22 in many leagues, but I really can't see him earning much more than that. You won't find a bargain here but Felix is the keeper of all keepers and should be awesome in 2006.
