Bohn optioned to Triple-A

From John Hickey's PI Blog: "Center field prospect T.J. Bohn was optioned to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers before Friday afternoon's game with the San Diego Padres. Bohn, 26, was at his first big league camp after four years in the Seattle minor league system, and had been having a nice spring -- a .333 batting average in 21 at-bats with a .407 on-base percentage boosted by four walks."

Observations on Bohn and others.
Warning: Small small small sample size and no scouting experience whatsoever.

I've been in Arizona for the last week, and in the little I saw of Bohn, he looked surprisingly lost in the outfield for someone with a positive defensive reputation.  He had a good outfield assist from right to third on Wednesday, though the runner looked safe.

Though it is early in his move to third base, I can't imaging Tui sticking there.  Slow reactions and bad form - he missed 3 plays in one inning earlier in the week - all GENEROUSLY scored hits.

Sherrill needs to have some better outings the rest of the way.  Thornton is doing his best to pitch his way off the team, but Sherrill is matching Thornton's futility.  He got knocked around by the Cubs earlier this week, and again by the Padres today.  Unless he has been told he is a lock for the pen and is working on a new pitch, in which case getting hit hard and often doesn't imply anything more than he should not use the new pitch, he needs some success in the next two weeks to get in Hargrove's favor.

Justin Leone hit a grand slam in the top of the ninth today.  Nice to see him get a little revenge.

Matt Lawton has some pop in his juiceless bat yet.

Petagine hit one of the coolest home runs early this week - it looked like it went twice as high as it did far.

Jeremy Reed has absolutely amazing control over his bunts, and it looks like the M's want him to use that skill this year.  The only trouble is he doesn't seem to be much of a drag bunter, and squares around too early to get hits with any regularity.  If he can speed up the process a bit, I could see him getting 20 bunt hits this year.

Carl Everett sucks.

Sherrill will be gone...
if he and Thornton match numbers because of the whole out of options thing. Today's recent 3-run 1-inning outing certainly didn't help. He's going to need to pitch virtually error-proof ball the rest of the way if he doesn't want to start the season in Tacoma.

FWIW...
I'm pretty sure George is working on some pitches.  Obviously the results have been less-than-encouraging. I'm confident, though, he'll find his groove.

As Snelling or Blackley might say -- No worries, matey!

I can't trust the words 'No worries'
from a guy rehabbing from reconstructive surgery and a hitter with a chronically torn knee.

I think the pitch George is working on is the Suck pitch that Thornton taught him.

The suck of the 5 masters of the Suck Pitch has been proven over the years.

Does anybody remember...
"Hardball" for Commodore 64? If you put a position player in to pitch, they could only throw the "Fat Pitch". Suck pitch reminded me of that.

I had that game...
but it was for the Sega Genesis. In fact, I set up my season so that my crappiest bench player was a starting pitcher. Over the course of the season, he was my second best starter, even though he only threw the fat (or suck) pitch. So I guess there's hope...
