Happy New Year from Lookout Landing

On behalf of Jeff (who I'm sure is doing, or has done (what time is it in Europe right now?), something much cooler than most of us) and the pinch bloggers (Deanna, Steve and myself), I want to wish all the readers of Lookout Landing a safe and happy New Year and a here's hoping for a terrific 2007.

Update [2006-12-31 20:47:31 by Steve Nelson]: from Steve: Per Positive Paul's comment below, let his be an honorary LL "game thread" to follow all the New Years Eve and New Years Day celebrations around the world. Drunk posts will likely be removed - unless we decide to leave it there for your humiliation.

Dear God, No!!!
Uh, someone please take the keyboard away from Scruffy.

And, uh, Corco, while you're at it.

Too bad we can't have an honorary game thread to follow all the New Years' celebrations around the world.  The state of drunkenness would be fun to watch.

Iceberg, right ahead!

Hppy New Year!
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands!
Willie Bloomquist and Mike Hargrove suck. Horacio Ramirez doesn't suck but is way worse than Soriano.

I only had glass of champagne at midnight
We eventually ended up at a party in West Philly being thrown by the brother of one of my best friends from high school, which was an overwhelmingly surreal experience to begin with.  It got even more surreal when everyone got drunk and started randomly breaking into "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!"  (I yelled "GO PHILLIES!!!!" in response.)

Though it was probably weirder being at the theatre for a musical (42nd Street!) and at intermission, about ten people simultaneously got up, got out cellphones, and went to check the score.  Some 12-year-old kid got it first and shouted "24-17 Eagles!", to a wave of cheers from all the dressed-up theater patrons.

And I kid you not -- it's 2:30am and I just heard a bunch of drunk people go by on the street below yelling "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!"

The best part is that the Eagles won with all second-string or third-string guys.  Pretty funny, along with the crappy Detroit team beating Dallas... take that, T.O!

No, I don't know why I'm writing all of this here.  Probably because Trent mispelled my name and I had to edit it.

Happy New Year!

I hate the Eagles
I will never forget them for screwing the Packers by converting a 4th and 26 near the end of the NFC Championship game a couple years ago.

I have this great plan
which involves moving to Sendai, Japan, and working my way into the Rakuten Golden Eagles cheering group, and teaching the entire stadium of crazy Japanese baseball fans to shout "E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!" the same way.  Then I'd have to figure out some way to get it on YouTube.

LOL 4th and 26
which went down with the Music City Miracle and the Immaculate Reception as one of the greatest last-minute kicks in the balls in NFL playoff history.

Here's one for the Packers: Brett Favre's first ever playoff game, a wildcard playoff in Pontiac against the Lions, sometime in the early 90's.  Lions have a 3 point lead with about 40 seconds left and the Packers are driving near midfield.  They just need a field goal and they'll tie.    Favre drops back on one play and suddenly hurls a bomb for the end zone.

Between about four idly daydreaming Lions DBs stands Packers receiver Sterling Sharpe, who just calmly turns around and catches it in the end zone, TOUCHDOWN Packers.  Favre just goes batshit, racing to the sidelines, throwing off his helmet and leaping into whoever's arms, yelping and screaming his ass off.

All these years later, it still stands as my favorite Favre moment of all time.

The Lyons are idiots.
Hey! Let's win the last game of the season for no reason, so we can give up the first overall pick in the draft!

Blah.
Everyone's asleep in my house.  This sucks.  Of course, it's pretty much like this every year for me.  I've never been much of a New Year's Eve partier.

I have bad forebodings for 2007.  Screw the champagne -- I'm finding something else...

Iceberg, right ahead!

Aaah. Much better.
That small bottle of Blue Chimay that I've been saving for 10 years found its way open.  Man, that's some GOOD stuff...

I just got home
and while I hate champagne, I will raise my glass of Johnnie Walker Blue Label in your direction. Cheers!

Happy National Hangover Day
or as some may call it, new years

by mariners124m on Jan 1, 2007 11:20 AM PST reply actions

Yeah I was just going to say
the hungover masses will begin to refresh LL needlessly.  Oh well, I'm not feeling too bad.  Good luck to all the suffering people out there.

by Edgar for Pres on Jan 1, 2007 11:33 AM PST up reply actions

I was strangely unhungover
When I woke up at 11AM this morning (I imagine some of you PST people were still drinking), which is crazy considering how much whiskey jelly I consumed.

by Graham MacAree on Jan 1, 2007 11:33 AM PST up reply actions

Whiskey Jelly?
Is that like a vodka Jello shot?

by johnbai on Jan 1, 2007 2:51 PM PST up reply actions

Sort of
Take some Haribo, and let them sit in Southern Comfort for a month.

by Graham MacAree on Jan 1, 2007 10:50 PM PST up reply actions

I didn't get to bed until 6 this morning.
And now I've woken up, and I am hungover. Beer bongs + Car Bombs + Chugging + Taking shots in random sequences == BAD hangover.

by Corco on Jan 1, 2007 11:37 AM PST reply actions

Thankfully, I rarely if ever get hangovers.
Regardless of how much alcohol I consume.

New Years parties kick ass though.

HEY, ME TOO
I think consuming food with alcohol helps distribute its digestion and saves your ass the next day.

by Gomez on Jan 1, 2007 5:51 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that might explain some of it
I also, regardless of how much I drink, remember everything that happens when I'm drunk. Which is sometimes a blessing and a curse.

remember everything?
I also, regardless of how much I drink, remember everything that happens when I'm drunk

How would you know that?

by Steve Nelson on Jan 1, 2007 6:09 PM PST up reply actions

Because I've been able to fill in other people
on the crazy stuff they did.

I've also tested this theory by collaborating events with a designated driver before.
