Ho. Ly. Balls.

Kill me now. ("Thanks" to MFIA for the link.)

The Washington Nationals took a major step toward freeing room on their future payroll and breaking loose a logjam in the middle infield, agreeing to trade second baseman Jose Vidro...to the Seattle Mariners for...Chris Snelling, a 25-year-old outfielder with a history of injuries, and Emiliano Fruto, a 22-year-old right-handed reliever with an exceptional changeup, in exchange for Vidro.

I am seriously ill.

JOKE ARTICLE
This has to be an incredibly well done practical joke!  It HAS to be!  I mean, Bavasi isn't this dumb, is he?!

WHy
Oh Why?

Please
Take me back to the time when I read Mariner Mail bag and believed the crap they fed me.  I think I was happier overall.  As much as I love understanding the game at a greater level, when an organization is run like the Mariners it sucks the life out of you.

Now lets play a game.  Pick the adj. to describe Vidro.

Vetern bat
Proven Leader
Left Handed Bat!

K that isn't helping.

WTF?
What the hell is this?

I can't believe this is happening.

Seriously, why am I an M's fan again?

by anotherjeff on Dec 13, 2006 5:10 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Uh. Right.

Seriously, did Bavasi have a stroke and lose half his brain function?

We traded for a second baseman. We already have one.

Is Lopez gonna be sent off in a package for something else or is this just another illogical moved meant to leave the "Bavasi stain" on the franchise when he gets fired?

by Ben in Va on Dec 13, 2006 5:11 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I need somebody to give me an explaination of why
the hell we would do this.  Isn't Lopez a legit hitter.  Vidro isn't a bad player but he sure doesn't fill a need this team has.  My fear is that this is setting up another move to come.  Ahhh!

by Edgar for Pres on Dec 13, 2006 5:12 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking maybe this means Sexson
is getting traded and they would shift Lopez to 1B but he really doesn't hit enough to play 1B, right?

by Edgar for Pres on Dec 13, 2006 5:13 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Vidro
would play first instead of Lopez

by Scruffy Lefty on Dec 13, 2006 5:38 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I am guessing this might be having to do...
with the Betancourt situation.  That could end up being very bad.  I work with Customs and things are being said in a good way.

by ppl4life on Dec 13, 2006 5:12 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

But the deal has been out for several days
If you read in the article it says the commissioners office has been sitting on the deal for several days. Thats before the Betancourt thing broke.

by Ben in Va on Dec 13, 2006 5:17 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

The Betancourt thing
has been in the works for quite a while.  I am pretty sure that the front office knew about it right after the season ended

by ppl4life on Dec 13, 2006 5:27 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

What the hell?
This move makes absolutely no sense! This is possibly worse than the Soriano trade because WE DON'T NEED A FUCKING 2B!!!! I hope Snelling never gets hurt again and becomes a pereniall all-star just to stick it up Bavasi's ass! Oh wait, that's impossible because his head is already up it!

by basebliman on Dec 13, 2006 5:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Lopes probably IS gone because of this
If you can deal Snelling, practically no one is safe.

by ThundaPC on Dec 13, 2006 5:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Betancourt has to be going to jail because of
the smuggling thing and Lopez is becoming the SS.

That's the only even close to logical explanation I can think of.

Aici zace un om despre care nu se ştie prea mult.

by Goose on Dec 13, 2006 5:14 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Even if that's true...
I would rather sign Mark McLemore off the street than trade Snelling for Vidro.

by Happybelly on Dec 13, 2006 5:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That would be bad
Better get Lopez on that treadmill right now otherwise his defense at SS will be painful.  Especially with all those GB pitchers we just got.  Grrr, this move isn't what I need right now.

by Edgar for Pres on Dec 13, 2006 5:16 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yuni in jail?
Funny thought...hopefully it won't come to be.
I guess I'll have to take this Hargrove shit much longer...ugh

by WAB on Dec 13, 2006 5:20 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think there's got to be wires crossed.
It just doesn't make sense.  So I'm not going to bother reacting until this shows up in more than one media outlet, preferrably one based on mlb.com somewhere.

by Deanna on Dec 13, 2006 5:16 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

This makes perfect sense
We had to get rid of Snelling to make room for Cliff Floyd.

Right?

They are still
talking to him though

Rotoworld's quip
"Can't someone fire Bill Bavasi before he does anymore damage? The Mariners are taking on $12 million of the $16 million Vidro is owed over the next two years, which would be reasonable if Vidro still happened to be a quality defensive second baseman. As is, the Mariners figure to DH him and keep Jose Lopez at second base. Vidro's OPS has dropped four straight seasons, falling to 763 in 2005 and 744 last season. Also, he hasn't remained healthy enough to get 500 at-bats since 2003. Snelling certainly had a realistic chance of being a better DH, and Fruto has a fair amount of upside as either a starter or a reliever. Amazingly enough, this is another winner for Nats GM Jim Bowden."

Why?  I thought he liked Snelling.  FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-U Bavasi.

Man
This is embarassing.

by ThundaPC on Dec 13, 2006 5:22 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe Bavasi found a time machine...
to take us back to the 2000 Jose Vidro.

Yes, it's a lame comment, but I have nothing left inside at the moment.

Free Chris Snelling.

Well
there goes the Doyle jersey I was planning on getting for Christmas.

At least Bavasi didn't wait until after the Holidays to drop this piece of crap on us.

by ningwers on Dec 13, 2006 5:25 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Soooo.....
When are we going to trade Johjima to Oakland?

by ThundaPC on Dec 13, 2006 5:26 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

the rotoworld
report might be wrong. According to mlb trade rumors.com it says the nationals are paying 12 of the 16 million left on the contract. I wonder if they are going to trade beltre so lopez can play 3rd. who knows.

by lowrig on Dec 13, 2006 5:26 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

MLBtraderumors has mariners
paying 12 of 16 million left

Can this get any worse?

With Bill Bavasi left, the answer is yes.

Lets just hope he gets fired before that happens

by Frerken on Dec 13, 2006 6:05 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Jeff, Don't thank me
for the link... I debated long and hard on whether to post it, hoping it would go away... and knowing the backlash that would come with it.

Thru the years I've been known as a FO supporter, but this year even I (capt optimist) can find nothing positive in any moves that Bavasi has made.

It almost seems as if he's read the writing on the wall so he's just doing what he can to seal the fate he see's coming.

Unless... he's got some backroom agreement with the board members to use this season to oust Lincoln and Armstrong.... and that's just wishful thinking.

by MfaninAlaska on Dec 13, 2006 5:30 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I wish it were 2000 again.
Pre-LL and all that. I want to be back on the boards, arguing with you and phred and DM and everyone while the Mariners won 90 games and made the playoffs. Back when baseball didn't actually make me angry.

Man. What? I mean, what?

by Jeff on Dec 13, 2006 5:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Those were the good days
When you would argue about crap but still go to bed happy cause the M's were heading to the playoffs and we were destined to deal with the Yankee's in the ALCS....

Now its.... me checking the fishing regs up here and not being bothered by what series the M's are playing this weekend.

This winter has sucked the life right out of me.

by MfaninAlaska on Dec 13, 2006 5:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep.
I liked when petty arguments on the boards were my biggest Mariner-related problem.

by Jeff on Dec 13, 2006 5:51 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe
We should all become Angel fans, so that our "luck" can infect them instead of the Mariners.  They already have a website run by a DM Clone.....

...we could have Theo adopted by some people on Queen Anne?

Man,
Out-GM's by Bowden.  How low can we go?

I hate this deal from the bottom of my shriveled heart.

Im sorry
But honestly, I like the deal.  If this means Lopez or Beltre is gone for a TOR starter...so be it.  I love Snelling, but we havent seen him for 200 AB yet at the MLB level and dont know if we will.  I like what Vidro brings to the table and is a perfect #2 hitter behind Ichiro.

by tkballer22 on Dec 13, 2006 9:07 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

You like what Vidro brings to the table huh?
So you like guys who slug under .400, don't get on base much, are really immobile and gimped up, on a serious decline, and make about $6 million a year?

Explain to me, what there is to like about Jose Vidro.

Then explain to me who is going to trade us a TOR pitcher for Adrian Beltre or Jose Lopez.

Also, explain to me how Jose Vidro is the perfect #2 hitter behind Ichiro.

Aici zace un om despre care nu se ştie prea mult.

Well in fairness
if Vidro returns to form. He will get on base without striking out much

by Scruffy Lefty on Dec 13, 2006 10:31 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I am so sorry
I'm and A's fan, but I've always liked the Ms in a "well they're a division rival but it's hard not to root for them against anyone else" sort of way.

It's really disappointing to watch what Bavasi is doing to you guys. My condolences.
