Don't go all PI-blog and start a "Shotgun" thing.

I rarely visit that blog anymore, which kinda makes me sad (it was the first blog I frequented ever).

by PositivePaul on Aug 4, 2005 11:12 AM PDT reply actions

I knew it, according to Rotoworld
Contrary to Tuesday's report, it looks like the Yankees may have interest in Aaron Sele after all.
If they go after him, they'll put him in the minors and see if he can pitch his way out.

by Goose on Aug 4, 2005 11:13 AM PDT reply actions

Sele couldn't pitch his way out of Everett
But let the Yankees find that out the hard way if they so desire.

by Gomez on Aug 4, 2005 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

Don't tell them they are making mistakes.
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than watching Nomo, Leiter, and Sele pitch for the Yanks and NY finishing 3rd.

by jtopps on Aug 4, 2005 11:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Granted
It would be so cool for us if, when the Yankees came to town later this month, Aaron Sele was on the hill for the Yanks.  OUR TURN to rip him up.

Every drop in WE for the other team after an out
is a corresponding rise in WE by the pitcher, unless a fielder makes a great play.  Likewise, hits by the other team are drops in WE by the pitcher, unless a fielder commits an error.

Indeed
And when the fielder makes a great grab or commits an error, they get the credit instead of the pitcher.

by Gomez on Aug 4, 2005 11:23 AM PDT up reply actions

That was actually
a fairly heads up play by Bloomquist, the Tigers had the hit and run on. Now of course I have no idea who made the call to have Morse cover 2nd instead of Bloomquist, but still...

WFB
"Willie Ballgame"'s line for the season:

.268/.311/.333

You're free to your own opinion of what that line means, but that looks like a pretty piss-poor hitter to me, and this is supposedly his breakout year.  Yikes.

Felix's Pitch Count

by Colby In Boston on Aug 4, 2005 11:22 AM PDT reply actions

Decisions
Do they pull him in the middle of an at bat against a guy if he hits 80 while doing so?

I'm thinking no, but stranger things have happened - like walk-off balks and walk-off strikeouts...

by Colby In Boston on Aug 4, 2005 11:24 AM PDT up reply actions

The stated number is 'around 80'
So I'm guessing either a) they pull him when he's close to 80 or b) if he gets to 80 during an AB they let him finish.

Hargrove: snoring, mumbling Ubh bhurb brubb.  Where am I?

Hassey:  Detroit, skip.  Comerica park.  You're managing the Mariners.  8th inning, Morse on at first.  Spiezio due up.  We're down by two -- you think we should pinch-hit?

Hargrove: Stay focused.  Let's get this guy.  Just throw strikes, son!

Hassey: Skip?

Hargrove: You heard me!  Er, wait.  Send in Bloomquist.

Hassey: Uh, skip.  He's up after Ichiro. 0-3 so far today, as is Ichiro.

Hargrove: Where's Boone?

Hassey: He's at home with the twins.  We traded him to Minnesota, but they gave up on him too.

Hargrove: Gets up off bench & starts walking to the mound.  Taps his right arm.

Hassey: Chases after Hargrove... Uh, skip, we can't make a pitching change.  We're up to the plate.

Hargrove:Ignores Hassey, reaches Rodney... Stay focused.  Let's get this guy.  Just throw strikes, son!

My official entry
As tomorrow's game recap.

Of course, there's got to be some reference to Felix somewhere, but that deserves (and will probably get) it's own discussion.  The rest of the game could be summarized precisely thusly.

Nope.
It was only like that because the game wasn't televised anywhere. It usually picks up a Fox feed.
