Final AL All-star Spot

Ok guys, final Al all-star spot voting ends tonight, so lets get the voting done here.

Scott Podsednik (CHW)
Carl Crawford (TB)
Hideki Matsui (NYY)
Derek Jeter (NYY)
Torii Hunter (MIN)

I honestly think that everyone here should vote for Pods. He does NOT have a whole lot of power, but he will probably pinch-run and score or pinch hit to draw a walk. As you guys know he is the BEST basestealer the last 2 years. This year he has 42 SB and i am sure they will let him run wild in the allstar game. Right now Pods is leading over Derek Jeter for the all star vote.

Since unfortunately there are no Mariners players we might as well vote for someone who will help us out the most and who DESERVES this spot. Plus no one wants to see another damn Yankee in an all-star game. Soo Pods might be the best to vote for. So come on people get out there and VOTE people!

If you vote anyone but Matsui, doesn't that make Ichiro in the Home Run Derby!  Since someone has to go for the Japanese part

Wow
That would be cool to see Ichiro in the Home-run derby, i would watch for sure.

voted 122 times
for Podsednik. More because I am sick of seeing Jeter and Matsui than I am thrilled with Podsednik.

I voted about 25 times
before I got bored. A Oriole's fan friend of mine voted 145 times for Podzilla. I might've voted someone else but Pods was the closest so I figured my votes would mean more.

WOW guys
Thanks for the MASSIVE support. We need to keep Jeter from this one, and Pods is getting WAVES uof support throughtout the nation. I have voted about 70 times and will vote in the next 45 mins before it ends.

Jeter deserves it...
but I'm sick of him. Go Podzilla.

HAHA!
Suck it Jeter.

I actually wanted Torri Hunter to go but when I relized that voting for Pods meant Jeter wasnt going, I had to vote for him.

Ichiro
Now the question is does MLB have the sack to put Ichiro in the derby? I hope they do.

Jeter more deserving than Podsednik
Jeter is more deserving than Podsedsnik because he has been a six time all star and performed at the highest level for a decade. Pods is a nice player but won't bring in new fans, which is the WHOLE point of the All Star Game. The all star game is a showcase of baseball and more people are interested in the Yankees and Jeter than Scott Podsedsnik, Carl Crawford and any other "underrated" player who plays in the middle of nowhere with 12000 fans a night.

bring in new fans?
Is the point of the All-Star game really bringing in new fans?

I wish that the player who was playing the best that year at their respective position were the ones who got voted in. Unfortunately, it seems like a player's reputation has too much influence (see votes for Nomar, Scott Rolen).

I understand that Jeter has All-Star numbers. And even if more people are interested in seeing Jeter, I am really glad that the AL All-Star team isn't a carbon-copy of the Yankees lineup. So eat it Jeter!

by jtopps on Jul 7, 2005 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Jeter doesn't deserve anything
The only reason he has been an all star is because he plays in New York.  Tejada has been better, Nomar was better, etc.  Who has done more for the team?  Pods or Jeter? Pods is on the best team in baseball.  A catalyst.  What does Jeter bring besides an egg head? Tejada and Young are already there and better. And my final argument is that he didn't get enough votes, which proves that two things are happening, the world hates him and two he wasn't good enough to get in.

I didn't know
that Chicago only got 12,000 a night. Weird since they're in first.

I love it
Everybody on Sportscenter, baseball tonight, around the horn and everyother show on ESPN can't believe that Jeter wasnt voted on the All star team

Woody Williams made me want to reach through the tv and strangle him when he said

"I can't believe that Derek Jeter isnt in the All Star, he's the face of baseball and a Hall of famer."

Bullshit! No way in hell is Jeter a HOFer.Suck it ESPN your boy isnt there.

by Goose on Jul 7, 2005 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

I hate to say it Goose...
but Jeter will be a HOFer, solely because of his post-season heroics. See Reggie Jackson. Granted Reggie was a very good player, but if it wasn't for the post-season heroics, he'd be another Jim Rice (who I personally think is a better player). Not to mention all the east cost writers voting. He may not get in on the first ballot, but he'll be in.

That
is probably the worst article I've read in my life.

For more of Rob Dibble's hardball opinions, click here.

No thanks.

I mean, scroll down to another one of his pieces:
Having watched St Louis Cardinals shortstop and leadoff hitter David Eckstein now for four-plus years, he is easily one of my favorite players. He may not be able to hit like Albert Pujols, or go get fly balls like Jim Edmonds or catch and throw like Scott Rolen, but if you took all of them and squeezed them together, you would come out with a player like David Eckstein.

Actually, you'd have a HoF-caliber hitter with terrific range and the ability to play everywhere on the field.

Rob Dibble makes the world dumber.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jul 7, 2005 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll tell you why Jeter isn't on the team
It's because Torre didn't get to choose the reserves this time.  Sometimes it looks like Dibble is just being a Jackass on purpose

by BlueBaron on Jul 7, 2005 10:45 PM PDT up reply actions

The Uber Cardinal
Could you merge his with Matt Morris as well so he could pitch every 5th day too?

by Graham MacAree on Jul 8, 2005 12:58 AM PDT up reply actions

His best statement was...
Jeter is the Jordan of baseball.

What the F**K?!?

Oh.  You mean Jordan Knight.  Okay.

Dibble gets my vote for assbag of the year.

Go M's! http://marinersmorsels.blogspot.com

by PositivePaul on Jul 8, 2005 8:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Wouldn't the Jordan...
be Barry Bonds?? Just a guess. I know he hasn't played yet this year, but Bonds is the man. Is Dibble one of Jeter's agents or something? Or does Jeter have some serious blackmail on Dibble, like Ayala must've had on Lou?
