Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Minor League Wrap-Up: 7/12/05

Not much going on in the Mariners system.

San Antonio edged Arkansas, 2-1 (10). Rafael Soriano took the hill in the first and tossed a perfect inning to continue his excellent success during rehabs starts. Thomas Oldham, the scheduled starter, took the bulk of the game and was solid as he went seven innings scattering five hits, a run and a walks while fanning three. The Mission offense scored one run in the first via a Jesse Hoorelbeke double that scored Jon Nelson, but then sputtered for the next nine innings. Jamie Bubela finally got the job done in the tenth with a walk-off solo shot over the right field wall.

Notables:

Rafael Soriano: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K.
Thomas Oldham: 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.
Jamie Bubela: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 1-4.
T.J. Bohn: 3-4, 2 2B.
Jesse Hoorelbeke: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Adam Jones: 0-4.

Inland Empire handled San Jose, 5-3. Mumba Rivera was exceedingly wild as he went 5.2 innings giving up THREE homers, four walks and eight hits...but only three runs. That's effectively wiggling out of jams, and for it, he was awarded a win. Troy Cate got some time in and gave up a hit and struck out a couple in 2.1 innings and Craig James pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his tenth save. Everyone not named B.J. Garbe picked up at least one hit for the 66'er offense yet Sebastien Boucher was the only IE player with an XBH as he smacked a double in the ninth.

Notables:

Mumba Rivera: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 3 HR.
Sebastien Boucher: 2-5, 1 2B.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 1-4, 1 RBI.
Bryan Lahair: 2-4, 1 BB, 2 RBI.
Carlos Arroyo: 2-4, 1 RBI.
Little Garciaparra: 1-4, 1 RBI.

Soriano
Any observations on his velocity?  Is he still in that lower 90's range?
