Matt Thornton

Interesting little tidbit about Thornton on the M's website.  Even though he hasn't pitched that well, he's still a big consideration for the bullpen based on the fact that if they don't keep him on the roster they lose him.  Whereas that wouldn't necessarily be the case with a guy like Sherrill who has virtually gone unnoticed this spring.

My best guess is that they keep Thornton on the roster to start the season, and if he can't or doesn't get it together to be effective, then they find a mysterious injury for a while or try and sneak him thru waivers.
