Another Trade Casey for Williams

Another left handed bat changes teams.  This one without pop.

"The Cincinnati Reds reached a preliminary agreement Tuesday night to trade first baseman Sean Casey to the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-hander Dave Williams, a deal that addresses each team's biggest need."

I always
escape the character limit with some nice, crisp Fresca-like commentary from my otherwise flawed perspective.  That with a quote of the article's relevant tidbits always covers the limit.

As for the trade, whatever happened to Sean Casey?  No, not logistically: that's obvious.  I mean, wasn't this guy gonna be a huge star about five years ago?  He's hit well and he gets on base, but his power numbers have gone up and down.  He only had 9 HR's last year.

Eh, whatever.  I still adore Sean Casey and think this is a great trade for Pittsburgh.  Lefty sock of sorts... only question in my mind is what'll happen to Brad Eldred.  

The Pirates are going to lower the average starting age on their team to like 24, and it's going to be a lot of fun to watch.

I don't deny Casey's ability to hit
The guy is good for a 300/360 AVG/OBP, so he is a huge asset to that Pirates lineup.  Maybe, just maybe, playing in Pittsburgh, which I'm guessing is a more positive clubhouse atmosphere than underacheiving Cincinnati, will help him get back to mashing.

Eldred clearly mashed last year, but he also struggled to get on base and struck out a lot.  Maybe they'll platoon him a bit and give him some starts at 1B against righties.  Or maybe he gets the Jose Lopez 2005 treatment and starts 2006 at AAA to build his confidence.
