Read it and weep
"The Mariners have offered a contract to free agent Carl Everett, according to one source with knowledge of the negotiations. If it is to his liking, the switch-hitting outfielder/designated hitter could sign with Seattle before the end of the week. Larry Reynolds, Everett's agent, did not speak with Mariners officials Monday, but that dialogue should resume shortly."

Maybe not...
Call me crazy, but I think this might mean that Raul is traded, rather than moved to left.
Disclaimer: This is purely speculation on my part. I am not claiming a source on this.
Raul is $0.75-1.25 mill more expensive than Everett, but he's also younger (while still being on the wrong side of 30, of course), which makes him more appealing to a team as a long-term option. Everett over Raul would likely give us less offensive production, but Raul can be used to get Kip Wells from the Pirates, or some other as of yet unidentified target, and we still have our basic "stopgap" player in place.
Getting Wells would allow us to dismantle part of the current rotation and spin that off somewhere (bye bye Meche?), or we could keep Meche, add prospects to Wells, and try to get a different piece (LF or P) through an additional trade.
Complex, and it puts a lot of faith in the idea that Everett doesn't decline too much, but it could happen.

On the other hand...
Oh well. I may just be hoping that we don't end up running either guy out there only to have them pull a hamstring and miss weeks/months.

someone should
I don't understand how the M's can sign such a guy contrary to the whole family, fuzzy feeling experience that Safeco and the M's are supposed to provide. I mean, if I were a parent, I would not want my kid to be watching this guy.

I think thats the one and only thing I would like
The fact the it WOULD detract from the family image.
I'm sick of the warm, fuzzy, family feeling crap.
Sometimes the Mariners seem like a bunch of pansies to me.There's been a few games that I can remember where it was obvious we were being thrown at(the cleveland game comes to mind)and nothing was done.Everett would be going out and kicking some ass!
But he sucks, so I don't want him.

Who is BJ Shea?

Re: Who is BJ Shea?
He uses the word constantly, so I figured you borrowed it from the show.
Apparently not.

Never listened to the Buzz

Re: Never listened to the Buzz
Entercom decided to change formats of it's most successful station and turn the Buzz into the "Wolf", a country station. Why did Entercom do this? Because they're Entercom and they have a knack for making completely retarded business decisions. Nothing has been able to compete seriously with KMPS and I doubt the "Wolf" will be any better.
So, Entercom in all it's infinite wisdom decided to completely drop Robin & Maynard (#2 morning show in Seattle behind the T-Man) even though they are still under contract. BJ Shea has been moved from 10am-3pm (top 3 consistently depending on when ratings came out) to KISW for a 5am-10am show which will take the place of Howard Stern's morning show (since he's going to Sirius). They moved the Men's Room to KISW between 3pm and 7pm, displacing Ricker who moves to the 10am-3pm slot.
But if that's not enough, they decided to move Tom Leykis, by FAR the highest rated afternoon show in Seattle to a 10pm-2am taping...an indefensible, disastrous move.
I know you didn't ask for all of that, but now you know anyway. KISW is changing big-time and Entercom is still stupid.

Wow
And yes, I'm stating it very lightly. If he signs, Carl had better be the damn comeback player of the year.
Wow, if so, there goes ten runs in left field defense. There goes Raul's knees. There goes the clubhouse morale and there goes the team's image.
PLEASE, Tampa Bay, make him an offer. Atlanta. Somebody near his Tampa home, so he can mercifully tell us to piss off.

Let me apologize before anything
Wow. The man we White Sox fans called Jurassic, because he insists the world is 4000 years old and doesn't believe in dinosaurs.
Look, we suffered through TWO separate stints with this guy, so I won't officiallly feel sorry for you until after the 06 season.
I will tell you this, though: his clubhouse cancer reputation is way overblown. He actually seemed to be a pretty good teammate. I don't really remember a single serious character type peoblem with him in 05. He's not nearly as bad as Milton Bradley; he's just slightly bonkers.
And while I do have hateful memories of him slumping horribly down the stretch when the Indians almost caught us and Ozzie running him out there day after day...swinging at everything in sight, striking out what seemed like 57 times in a row...he did manage to hit 23 HR's and rack up 87 RBI in 135 games.
