A much more reasonable choice than yesterday's, although I would've given it to the Rocket.

Got it right this time, for sure...
But more likely because Clemens has quite a few already.  Safe choice, that's for sure!

NL
I woulda voted Clemens, too.

The voters seems to totally forget that it's not a Most Valuable Pitcher award.

It's the best pitcher.  Whether the club won 100 games, 82 or 50, means nothing.

But the voters make it so.

Even so...
the Astros went all the way to the World Series and the Cardinals didn't. I know they aren't supposed to account for that when voting, but the guy put up a great season, especially considering his home ballpark, for a pitcher of any age. The fact that he is 42, should make it an even more obvious choice.

Well...
Since the voting takes place before the playoffs do, I don't think postseason numbers factor in...

I don't buy
that since Roger is 42, his accomplishments should count more.

Then let the stats...
do the talking. Take away the W-L record and they are better across the board except in walks and innings. The other stats, based on the amount of innings thrown work out in Clemens favor. Carpenter is a great pitcher who was on a great team, but Clemens had a better year.

You can criticize ERA...
but there is no argument with that completely retro, say historic, SP full-season 1.87. Finishing tops in FIP is icing on the cake.

Carpenter is very good. Doing what he did last season and in 2004 after sitting out a full season with double stitches is remarkable. But Rocket was the better pitcher.

Wow...
That doesn't seem very wise, if true.

Have the Yankees

If it can be in Japanese, sure
http://www.mainichi-msn.co.jp/sports/major/news/20051111spn00m050013000c.html

maybe you can try sticking it into a interpreter or something to interpret it...

Not sure of any other site.
I don't think it's official yet, but it sounds like it's more than a rumor.

Here is the only thing I can find on Matsui. Doesn't appear that he's signed
yet
.

Rumor
The above mainichi-msn article says that Cashman and Arn Telem (Matsui's agent) haven't reached an agreement yet, but that it's rumored that the Yankees are prepared to pay up to 4 years/$48 million.

And one of the "sources" mentioned for the $48 million figure is the New York Daily News. :P
