David Wells

Looks like David Wells wants to come west.  Should the Mariners show interest?

Here is the article.  I think west to Wells is California.

From Boston.com
"With a guaranteed $2.5 million in his contract for 2006, Red Sox lefthander David Wells intends to return for his 20th season in the major leagues, according to an industry source. But Wells, who turns 43 May 20 and plans to have knee surgery this winter, has conveyed to the Red Sox a desire to finish his career on the West Coast -- he has a home near San Diego -- and the Sox have indicated they will try to honor his request."

I don't want him in a Mariners uniform
He's old, out of shape, and on the decline.

He's just about the exact opposite of what we need, it would be stupid of Bavasi to aquire him.

Just say no to David Wells.

Who else but Quaqmire? giggity, giggity, giggity, giggity Let's Have SEX!!

Gotta go with Goose here
He appears to have a decent fielding independent ERA but that's helped by playing half his games in a a park with a giant wall for a LF fence.  His road HR numbers are terrible.  He's about done and he'll get badly exposed should he sign elsewhere.  Oh yeah, and he looks like he swallowed Carl Yastrzemski.

Let the Dodgers, Angels, D-Backs or Padres make that mistake.

No way
he comes here.  Someone who drinks and smokes would not be allowed near this team of grit and hardwork.

like Kevin Brown
Wells would be fine as a guy to fill out the rotation for one year, just as Kevin Brown would be or Jamie Moyer would be.

Come February, the Mariners are going to have to fill a couple of rotation slots with available talent. I would rather see them fill a slot with someone who actually might be good rather than some Sele-like piece of flotsam.

One-year and $2.5 million is fine as long as we don't need to give up anything of real value to acquire him.  Something like Baek for Wells - do it.

Problem is...
it's not really $2.5m.

That's just the base salary. He gets another $200k for each start #11-20, and $300k for each start #21-30. That's a max of $7.5m for a healthy Wells, along with a remaining $1.5m from his signing bonus (which Boston might pick up).

sounds like Moyer money
That seems like it's about the same amount of money Moyer wants.  If the Mariners have any inclination to spend that kind of money on Moyer (and we don't know if they do), wouldn't Wells be a better option than Moyer?
